I was looking at the Related Lists section of the Page Layout of the Contact object and noticed, hmn … something was not right (see Figure 1). Where was Activity History? It was nowhere to be seen. So, I put my investigator hat 🕵️ on and dug a bit.
Theory 1: Is it the Activity next to Chatter (Figure 2)?
I noticed that there is an Activity (tab) in the Page Layout. So I tried to play around in the Selected Fields and Buttons customisation (Figure 3) to see if any of the changes would be replicated.
Result: nah … This Activity is NOT the Activity History.
Theory 2: Lighting App Builder
I saw there was a Standard component called Activities and it was already used on the right pane (Figure 4). So … where the heck was the Activity History?
After applying some Google-Fu, I came across this KB ‘Open Activities’ and ‘Activity History’ related lists in Lightning. It stated the following:
“For objects such as Accounts, Contacts, Contracts, Leads, Opportunities, and activity-enabled custom objects the “Open Activities” and “Activity history” related lists may not present by default on standard Lightning pages because they’re superseded or replaced by the Activities (Activity Timeline) lightning component. Also, if the User’s Profile does not have Read access to Related To field of Field Level Security of Task, “Open Activities” and “Activity history” related lists may not show on their end …
… it is possible to include the “Open Activities” and “Activity History” related list by adding a “Related List — Single” component for each and setting either “Open Activities” and “Activity History” for the component’s Related List attribute.”
Lets give it a try by dragging the Related List-Single component to the Related (List) section and see what happen.
Voilà !!! It showed up in the preview (Figure 5)
I then activated the page accordingly and reviewed again by selecting a Contact. There it was! Activity History related list was shown.
Thank you Salesforce for this little bit of hide and seek fun :)
